NBC News President Noah Oppenheim arrived in Pyongyang on Saturday, according to North Korea's state news agency on Monday.

Korean Central News Agency said Oppenheim, 40, came to Pyongyang with other executives.

The American is believed to be arranging to cover North Korean athletes and envoys participating in the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in February.

The communist state recently confirmed with the South that Pyongyang would send delegations, including female ice hockey players and the national Samjiyeon Orchestra.

NBC is expected to send about 2,000 staff to South Korea to cover the Olympics, which will run from Feb. 9-25.

Oppenheim is responsible for all NBC News reports, including its top programs "NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt," "Today," "Meet the Press with Chuck Todd" and "Dateline."

KCNA reported in October 2017 that David Verdi, a senior vice president at NBC News, and other executives visited Pyongyang for two nights.
