Amazon's Alexa now has more than 15,000 skills
Alexa continues to get smarter and more capable every day.
According to a report on Voicebot and later confirmed by Amazon, Alexa crossed the 15,000 skills milestone on Friday. The achievement marks an impressively fast level of growth — the company crossed 10,000 skills just back in February.

(Though, to be fair, developers could only make third party Google actions for Assistant starting in January 2017.)
For the uninitiated, skills are the Amazon Echo's equivalent of "apps," and are part of the Alexa Skills store.
20% of Alexa's U.S.-based skills are Flash Briefings, which are daily news broadcasts from publishers. Other popular categories include gaming and education/reference, the company said in a blog post.
Credit: voicebotAlexa skills can do everything from help set the mood to order Starbucks. The new Echo Show which features a display will add a whole new range of activities that Alexa skills can help with, like cooking tutorials and watching TV.
The company also recently added notification alerts which can proactively let you know when there are new updates to a skill, which may significantly increase skills usage in the future.
